بحيرة تاهو هيا تانى أعمق بحيرة فى امريكا

اكبر بحيرة فى كاليفورنيا حسب المساحة ، هيا بحيرة بحر سالتون ، هيا بحيرة تشكلت سنة 1905 هيا دلوقتى مالحة. تبلغ مساحتها 376 square miles (970 km2) فى الركن الجنوبى الشرقى من الولاية، لكن لأنها ضحلة فانها تحمل حوالى 7.5 million acre-feet (2.4×10^12 US gal; 9.3×10^12 L) بس الماء.[2] كانت بحيرة تولارى فى وادى سان جواكين اكبر حجمًا، حيث بلغ عددها حوالى 690 مربع ميل (1800 كم لحد تم تجفيفها فى السنين الأخيرة من القرن التسعتاشر.

اكبر بحيرة فى اللستة حسب الحجم، هيا بحيرة تاهو ، و على الحدود بين كاليفورنيا – . فيها يقارب من 36 cubic miles (150 km3) من الماء. هيا كمان اكبر بحيرة للميه العذبة حسب المساحة، بمساحة 191 square miles (490 km2) ، و أعمق بحيرة حيث يوصل أقصى عمق ليها ل1,645 feet (501 m) .

من بحيرات الميه العذبة الموجودة بالكامل جوه الولاية، اكبرها حسب المساحة هيا بحيرة كلير ، اللى تغطى مساحة 68 square miles (180 km2) .[3] كتير من البحيرات الكبيرة فى كاليفورنيا هيا فى الواقع خزانات: مسطحات صناعية للميه العذبة. حسب المساحة والحجم، اكبرها هيا بحيرة شاستا ، اللى تشكلت خلف سد شاستا فى الأربعينيات من القرن العشرين. ممكن للسد احتجاز 4.552 million acre-feet (1.483×10^12 US gal; 5.615×10^12 L) من الميه على مساحة 29,740 acres (46.47 sq mi; 120.4 km2) .[4] بحيرة السينور ، وتبلغ مساحتها 3,000 acres (4.7 sq mi; 12 km2) ، تعتبر اكبر بحيرة طبيعية للميه العذبة فى جنوب كاليفورنيا .[5]

ملحوظة: البحيرات بتكبر و تصغر بسبب المطر والتبخر و الاطلاقات و التحويلات. علشان كده كتير من المساحات المدرجة تقريبية للغاية. بالنسبة للخزانات، يتم الاشارة لمناطق الحد الأقصى لتخزين المياه. نادر ما يُسمح للخزانات المستخدمة للتحكم فى الفيضانات بالوصول للحد الأقصى للتخزين. يُسمح بالسباحة و/أو صيد الأسماك و/أو ركوب المراكب فى بعض البحيرات دى ، لكن مش كلها.
