Català: El 17 de gener de 1994 es va fer el lliurament de la primera edició del Premi Blanquerna, que va recaure en el periodista, filòleg, lingüista i president de la Reial Acadèmia de la Llengua Espanyola Fernando Lázaro carreter, en un acte celebrat a Madrid.

El jurat ha reconegut que Lázaro Carreter va distingir-se el 17 d'octubre de 1992 a San Miguel de la Cogolla, on va pronunciar un discurs a favor de la concòrdia entre les llengües de l'Estat. El guardonat va enviar un missatge "de tolerància i convivència, disposat a defensar amb la força de les paraules les comunitats amb una cultura i una història diferenciades". A més, va demanar "el reconeixement jurídic ple de les llengües espanyoles que la democràcia ha establert, un us raonable d'aquest dret a la llibertat i gestos de concòrdia que contagiïn els ciutadans".

Fernando Lázaro Carreter va néixer a Saragossa el 1923 i va morir a Madrid el 2004. Va ser periodista, filòleg, lingüista i membre de la Reial Acadèmia de la Llengua Espanyola. El 1983 va rebre la Creu de Sant Jordi i al 1994, el VIII Premi Internacional Menéndez Pelayo.
